Han Xia is a percussionist active across classical, contemporary, experimental, and jazz music. His artistry combines an inquisitive musical mind with an adventurous spirit and a deep commitment to collaboration. Composer Christopher Theofanidis has described his interpretations of Xenakis as “austere, visceral, and precise.”

Han explores the full expressive range of percussion through new commissions/premieres, and arrangements of classical repertoire. He has worked with composers including David Lang, Martin Bresnick, Aaron Jay Kernis, Tan Dun, and Joan Tower.

As a member of The Percussion Collective and Yale Percussion Group, Han has performed throughout New England and Europe and has been invited to appear at the Bang on a Can Festival in 2027. In 2025, he co-founded Drums Around the World, the ensemble’s educational concert series introducing young audiences to percussion traditions across cultures.

The inaugural recipient of the Cecile and Robert van Sice Prize in Percussion, Han is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Yale School of Music, where he was the only instrumentalist admitted to the program for the 2026–27 academic year. He also earned his Master degrees at Yale on a full scholarship, studying with the legendary pedagogue, Robert van Sice.

He received his Bachelor of Music from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he studied with Gang Liu and Bingye Chen.
